5 Address Changes People Often Forget When Moving

Moving creates many hassles, one of which is completing a change of address form with the USPS. While the post office is good at helping forward mail to a new address, eventually this service ends. People need to change the address they have listed on file with companies they do business with. There are some common places people forget to change their address. Generally speaking, it is easy to forget to change an address if the service only sends mail infrequently.
  1. The Internal Revenue Service only sends mail once a year, which makes it easy to overlook changing the address that they have on file. By failing to update the address that the IRS has, taxpayers may see tax refunds delayed, or worse, lost completely.
  2. Frequent flyer accounts are low-priority accounts for many people, but they do generate mail. Often, that mail involves credit card offers, which should not be sent to the wrong address. Such a mistake could result in ID theft.
  3. Social media sites can have mailing addresses displayed, but because these sites rarely generate paper mail, this can be an easy place to overlook changing an address.
  4. Some utility companies only send bills annually, and they can easily be forgotten during the moving process. Making a list of all the utilities that are used ahead of time is an easy way to make sure that one of them does not send bills to the wrong house.
  5. Insurance companies also need to know about change of addresses. Many people only pay their automobile insurance every six months, which makes it easy to forget about.
There are many resources to help change an address quickly and easily. Local post offices are knowledgeable in address change procedures. Most companies have customer service agents who can easily process an address change request.
